Understanding the symbols in the bible is essential to understanding the bible itself.  Below is a list of symbols along with their meanings. Follow the links to small studies on the topic. More studies and topics to come. If you wish for study on a particular topic or symbol just ask.

  • Adultery = Idolatry
  • Barley = Firstfruits
  • Bread = Word of God
  • Bridegroom = Jesus Christ
  • Bride = Faithful Christians
  • Cedars of Lebanon = Elect of God
  • Darkness = Lies or Deception
  • Eagle’s Wings = protection or favor of God
  • Farming = Spreading the Truth of God
  • Field = World
  • Fowl’s Wings = protection or favor of satan
  • Frogs = Evil Spirits
  • Grass = flesh mankind (emphasizing its frailty)
  • Hair = Salvation, Christ
  • Helmet = Salvation, Christ
  • Horn = Power
  • Horses = Mobilization to war
  • Hunting = trying to find the truth
  • Jerusalem = Israel, both physical seed and spiritual
  • Lamp (lit) = Christians who spread the Truth of God

  • Outer Court = Those of the seed of Israel, who are not Christians
  • Planting = Spreading the Truth of God
  • Right Hand = Power, work
  • Rock = Christ
  • Sea = People of the world, Gentiles, Heathen, Non-Christians
  • Sea of Glass = God’s elect and all overcomers
  • Seeds = Kernels of Truth of God
  • Shield = Faith
  • Sowing = Spreading the Truth  of God
  • Stars = God’s children
  • Stone = Christ
  • Sun = God
  • Swine = the Unclean Word
  • Sword = the Word of God
  • Temple = the Heart of the Christian
  • Trees = Men
  • Water = Water of Life
  • Waters = People of the world, Gentiles, Heathens, Non-Christians
  • Virgin= Faithful Christians
